It was great to be present yesterday for the dedication of the Foncine Historic Marker with family members of the Foncine Store owner, Shelby Adams, and folks who had shopped at the store as kids before it closed in 1950. To learn more about it, visit the marker at the corner of Eldorado and Coit or if it's too cold , come by the Museum - it's one of the Lost Towns of Frisco discussed in our Lost Cities of Frisco Exhibit! (Also, this link will give you some information about Foncine and the store: http://www.friscoheritage.org/historic-sites/foncine/) #playfrisco #playhistorically

The more things change, the more they stay the same! It seems that over 90 years ago #Frisco and the surrounding towns were dealing with similar things: a overworked postal service and a viral outbreak - in 1929 it was influenza. Here is hoping 2021 is better than 1929! Newspaper articles from The Frisco Journal, 4 January 1929 via The Portal to Texas History at University of North Texas. We are open this week Tuesday - Saturday, and we'd love to have you come by for a ...visit and learn more about what life was like in early Frisco and just how much has - or has not - changed! If you'd like a spot in our Saturday walking tour at 10 am, tickets are available via our Facebook Event or our website, friscomuseum.org. #walkingtour Stay tuned for an announcement this week about a new tour we're launching! #newtour #historichomes #memorymonday #playfrisco #playhistorically #historicpreservation #friscoheritagemuseum #friscoheritagecenter #friscoheritage See more

You have one week left to come and see our traveling exhibit, "Vaquero: Genesis of the Texas Cowboy", which will be up through next Saturday October 10. The exhibition features photographs with bilingual narrative text that reveal the muscle, sweat and drama that went into roping a calf in thick brush or breaking a wild horse in the saddle. In the early 1970s, noted Texas historian Joe Frantz offered Bill Wittliff a once-in-a-lifetime opportunityto visit a ranch in northern... Mexico where the vaqueros still worked cattle in traditional ways. Wittliff photographed the vaqueros as they went about daily chores that had changed little since the first Mexican cow-herders learned to work cattle from a horse's back. Wittliff captured a way of life that now exists only in memory and in the photographs included in this exhibition.
