Via Art&Seek ...really powerful and important content. "Set in the 19th century, Soul Rep Theatre Company 's filmed play 'Do No Harm' tells the story of three enslaved women who were experimented on without anesthesia by a doctor credited as 'The Father of Modern Gynecology.'" https://bit.ly/3ou1p1X #artsminute #TACA #MoodyFoundation #perkinsschooloftheology #theater

Gratitude. Despite the despair, uncertainty, fear, and fragility that 2020 has brought, I find myself continuing to return to this one word: gratitude. Gratitude for our amazing and wonderful staff members (aka "the Village People), who have persevered, adapted, adjusted, laughed, loved, and smiled...even when it was hard to find a reason to smile. ... Gratitude for my wonderful co-supervisor Shae who, despite unprecedented challenges managed to produce incredible digital content, amazing "take home" opportunities, and beautiful collaborations with the Fort Worth Public Library, our Fort Worth Parks Community Centers, and the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge (I'm grateful for these partners too, by the way). In a year so full of dread and heaviness, Shae, the Village People, our partners, and even Santa (who visited us via Zoom), managed to create pockets of joy and magic, allowing our visitors to escape the present mentally even if they couldn't physically. There are so many other things that have sparked gratitude this year. Incredible work by our Parks Trades crews as they installed new paths. Stunning improvements to the Pickard cabin by our City of Fort Worth Property Management Department. Constant, unwavering support from the Recreation Division (of which we are a part) administrative team (Jacob, Renesha, Amanda) and my supervisor, Park & Recreation Department Assistant Director Kelli (who you might remember, was directly in charge of Log Cabin Village for 20 years). The list can go on and on. First responders. Hospital workers. Epidemiologists. Gig workers who have faithfully delivered both prepared food and groceries. And our visitors. We are SO SO grateful for YOU! YOU came to see us, both virtually and in person. You shopped in our small, front porch store. Instead of dropping spare change in our donation box, YOU left $5, $10, $20...even $100 bills. When we hesitantly and uncertainly reopened our gates, YOU were there. And we'll never forget it. PLEASE keep supporting museums and the arts. PLEASE help small businesses survive. PLEASE hang in there. We need you. We need you now, more than ever. And we miss you. May 2021 bring healing, renewal, and most of all, hope. Happy New Year. --Rena Lawrence, Historic Site Supervisor Word cloud by By Ashashyou - Own work, CC BY-SA 4.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=45146041

The Bertrand was a steamboat which sank in the Missouri River north of Omaha, NE, on April 1, 1865, after hitting a snag. Half of its cargo was recovered during an excavation in 1968. Our nerdy sense are tingling!
