This week at HARS Parkes - 13th November 2020 A productive week at the Museum with work taking place on the Caribou, both Neptunes and ground equipment. Student volunteers from Parkes High School painted the stinger tail as well as fitted new perspex to windows and installed them in Neptune 272. ... They then completed sanding and paint prep of an airman's trunk that went from Parkes to England during World War II and will go on display in the Museum when complete with other memorabilia. Neptune 302 had the first manufactured cockpit window fitted moving us along to finally sealing out the weather from this ravaged beauty. We hired a cherry picker and cleaned down, repainted and fixed bird spikes to the fins of our aircraft including Caribou 275. With all the beautiful trees in Parkes the birds still prefer our fiberglass and aluminum tails. Call in on Sunday and say hello, we're open from 9.30am. Your entry fee allows us to continue to preserve this iconic aircraft.
A cracking photo of Caribou 275 making a nose-down approach!

The Jacobs radial engine are 757 cu in(~12.4 lit...res each) rated at 300 HP each and are a 1940's design. Jacobs are no longer made new and and all our engines are technically at least 50 yrs old BUT fully rebuilt with new parts to be factory fresh. Come and visit us this Tarmac Weekend and see how good she looks. The photos don't do her justice.
