Eighty-three years ago today, the culmination of an amazing long distance flight from Moscow, Russia, to the west coast of the United States touched down at Vancouver, Washington’s Pearson Field. The 1937 Trans-Polar Flight saw three Russian aviators, Valery Chkalov, Georgi Baidukov, and Alexander Belyakov, fly non-stop for over 63 hours and 5,475 miles, initiating the polar flight route from Europe to the west coast of North America. Although Pearson Air Museum was unable to conduct its annual commemoration of this event due to the pandemic, we encourage you to visit the grounds of the museum to see the monument to these brave aviators and read the available outdoor wayside exhibits about this amazing event in aviation history. You can also learn more about this historic flight at https://www.nps.gov/articles/aredboltfromtheblue.htm
