Looking very different to when he worked in Yorkshire (Bradford and then Hull), here is the rebooted former
RIP Mr Bus
We stand with our brothers and sisters on the historic car scene. Please support this petition http://chng.it/fbgCZfxfrG This injunction (which will also apply to historic buses) was unknown to us until this morning.... Offering help to the car people if we can though. James
Lovely write-up in Wetherspoon News
Who will be the first to get a picture of Jim and Brian together (35562 and 37674)? For those who may not know, Brian Parkin and Jim Soper (both RIP) were the transport historians who have done more than anyone to record the ever-changing transport history of Leeds.
Leeds City 35562, dedicated this morning to the memory of the great transport historian Mr Jim Soper. Thank you to all at Hunslet Park for making this happen.
Highway works are to start imminently on Duncan Street, with the first phase being to remove the current central reservation. Here is how it may look once done.
Many of you will be familiar with the legendary Metro Transport News, edited for many years by the late Mr J Brian Parkin, and as of 2020, by Mr Dave Hodson. Here is the first page of issue 1 (then called Leeds Tramway News). This document is part of the Leeds Transport Historical Society collection and being temporarily stored here. Depending on whether anyone has done it already, it may be possible to seek permission to scan these early documents in.
Can anyone identify the first Sherburn vehicle, or the last cross gates vehicle, please?
In 1982, the layout inside the Charles H Roe factory was reconfigured to cater for the production of the Leyland Olympian. This diagram (on the way to the toilets of the eponymous pub) shows that revised layout.
Here is 1807s newly recovered drivers seat. Many thanks to the lovely Jennie from sprung_upholstery in Kirkstall for making this look lovely once more. In a slight diversion from originality, instead of using animal leather, the seat has been redone in #Pinatex (which is a vegan-compliant material, made from pineapple leaves).... Not only does this help us in the historic vehicle sector become more sustainable (which is an issue we will need to be more and more aware of, as we go forwards) but also caters for the fact that 1807 is normally driven by a vegetarian.
Look carefully at the arrows.... part of the collection of transport historian Jim Soper who recently passed away.
Friends/groups with preserved Roe/Optare/East Lancs buses - please could you put the weekend of sat/sun 22/23 May 2021 in your diaries. You could write 'Roe 100 Event, Yorkshire' if you wanted. Do drop a message if you want, including details of the bus(es) you have and your contact info. Members of the public, and enthusiasts - we are trying to create something behind the scenes, but there is a lot of background work to do before something is confirmed. Please bear with us..., and further announcements will follow, hopefully. Apologies in advance if the plans come to nothing - we are trying.
Some good news. Dennis Lance 4006 has been in the care of two of our people for the past year, who were determined not to see it scrapped when it's previous preservationist was unfortunately unable to continue. A new custodian has come forward who will in the fullness of time restore 4006. The new gentleman remembers these buses in Huddersfield when new, and we feel will be the right person to lead the next chapter of 4006. He has any and all support from us that he needs. ... No need to guess who - he will quietly get on with his thing, at a timescale to suit himself, hopefully away from the bitchy politics which is all too often too prevalent in bus preservation. Please follow YorkshireRider 4006 M406 VWW to see the next chapter. It is worth adding that Leyland Tiger/Plaxton Paramount 3200 B610VWU is also in need of a new custodian if anyone is interested, but you must appreciate the scale of the body rot. Get in touch if seriously interested.
Please support this venture by Golden Tours and York Pullman
Lovely to talk with Alexander and Jake the other day. Followers will enjoy this video series, I am quite sure. #CharlesHenryRoe week
