The menorah has a long history connected to the Bible and is primarily associated with an act of Jewish defiance. In the exodus story, the Israelites were instructed by God to construct a golden lampstand with six branches plus the stem. It was the source of light for the large tent called the tabernacle. The Bible later refers to ten golden lampstands adorning Solomon’s Temple. #Hanukkah

#DidYouKnow the Dominican Republic is the only country in the world with a Bible showcased in its national emblem? The national coat of arms of the Dominican Republic shows a Bible open to John 8:32 ("And you will know the truth and the truth will set you free"). Created in 1844, this Bible was limited to being open to the Gospels. Over the years, the shield went through 19 changes, but always keeping the Bible at its center. A decree in 2010 determined that it was open showing John 8:32.

This scroll is one of the oldest, most complete Torah scrolls from the Ashkenazi Jewish tradition of central Europe. #ArtifactoftheDay Its early medieval Ashkenazi origin is visible both in the ancient sewing technique used to attach the leaves and in its writing style. During later periods, portions of the script and layout were edited to adhere more closely to the teachings of Maimonides. These revisions are particularly noticeable in the Song of the Sea (Exodus 15:118), though fortunately the original layout is still discernable. See it on our History Floor or at https://fal.cn/3bBhT.
