Join us in the Museum’s Magical Holiday Forest of diversely decorated trees to enjoy the beauty of the season and experience the true spirit of Christmas. Each tree, which has been decorated by a local organization or business, represents a non-profit or charitable organization from our community. 2020 has been a very difficult year and many of our local charities have spent months supporting our community through the crisisand now they find themselves in need. In the spirit... of the season, we decided to help by calling on our friends to get a little competitive with their holiday decor, and asking YOU to vote for the winner by donating to the charity they represent. Vote for your favorite tree(s) by donating any amount (from a penny to $$$) to the charitable organization that the tree of your choice represents and, at the end of the event, the tree which has earned the most donations for its charity will win the 2020 Holiday Spirit trophy! Come enjoy the magic and beauty of the season while showing your little ones the true joys to be found in the season of giving. On display in the Hathcock Gallery, upper level, from December 11-31, 12pm-4pm, at Harlin Museum, with a special appearance on Saturday, December 12th & 19th by Santa & Mrs. Claus!!! (holiday photo opportunity) Don’t miss the fun!

The paintings of Andrea Kowch. A Michigan native, Andrea Kowch cites the Midwestern landscape as the prime inspiration for her work. Kowch's charming, haunting ...scenes have been compared to the work of Andrew Wyeth and Alfred Hitchcock. Like Wyeth, Kowch paints in a realist style, using rural settings as metaphors for her female subjects' internal states. And as in Hitchcock's films, the scenes Kowch depicts are not what they seem; mysterious plots and backstories seem to lurk below the surface. Kowch's fictive world is both domestic and wild: rabbits nest in women's laps, quails sit in their hands, moths land on their blouses. Even when her characters are inside, the natural world intrudes. The museum needs your help!! Please help us recover from the five months of mandated closure that led to a significant financial deficit for the museum. Since March 2020, in an effort to help maintain public safety and prevent the spread of the coronavirus, we remained closed and used what little resources we had in our savings to cover our operational costs. Now, our resources are nearly depleted and we must ask our patrons and our community for support.... We rely on financial donations made by our visitors and patrons to cover our monthly operational costs, as well as funding our efforts to preserve regional art and historical artifacts and offer educational resources for all ages. Please donate if you can! We know that many of you are also struggling financially right now. In the comments, you’ll find a link to our website page that details some of the other needs the museum currently has, other than financial, for those who would still like to find other ways give back. #harlinmuseumwp #westplainsmo #supportthearts #supportnonprofits

Like many galleries that are finally reopening after months of mandatory lockdown, Harlin Museum has made some changesincluding not hosting any large public gatherings or galas to open our shows in the foreseeable future. We will also be asking visitors to wear masks, maintain 6ft distances apart, practice good hygiene by washing your hands after coughing, sneezing, or using the facilities, and using common sense to know that if you do not feel wellyou should stay at home. Let’s make our official reopening this Saturday a safe and fun event for all to enjoy! #maskupozarks #harlinmuseumwp

We appreciate that everyone has been patient with us as we have dealt with delays in debuting our Fall Art Show. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we were unable to open last Saturday as plannedbut, your patience will be rewarded when we open this Saturday, October 17th! Please also remember that, due to the current public health concern and our need to keep our at-risk staff volunteers safe, we ask that all visitors wear a mask when visiting the museum and, also, please ke...ep in mind that we are open on Saturdays ONLY (12pm-4pm) through the end of 2020. (We realize our permanent sign in front of the building says we are open Thurs-Sunday, but that cannot be changed to reflect the temporary new schedule easily. Our new open days have been announced via social media and press release and we will continue to update the public on any changes and will post a notice on the museum doors. Thank your for kind understanding.)
