Color can change the mood of your image. A blue filter might make your image seem more sad or gloomy. A bright yellow filter will make your image more cheerful. This weekend, try out two activities at home: DIY and color filters. Show us your best shots, and we'll get back to you with our thoughts. Think about how you can use color to create your own filter. : https://mopa.org/educate/photo-challenge-color/... #photoclub Financial support for Photo Club is provided by The County of San Diego. #youthart #YouthArtsTakeover #youtharts #youthartists #youthartlessons #kidsart #artathome #freeartprojects #artiseverywhere #YouthEducation #Curator #Curatorial #YouthArt #OpenCall #mopasd #balboapark #growingup #sandiegoliving #sandiegophotographer #sandiegogram #sandiegocounty #sandiegophotography #SanDiegoLife #sandiegoart #sandiegoartist #photographytools #photographyandart #photography4life #photographyphotoofday

Women were instrumental at the very beginning of photography and all the way through. This International Day Of The Girl, we’re looking up to five women in an online exhibition with works from our permanent collection. Find a short list of women in photography that never cease to inspire, including Carrie Mae Weems, Flor Garduño, Holly Roberts, Suda House and Rinko Kawauchi.... Learn a bit more about each below-- 1/ Carrie Mae Weems has investigated family relationships, cultural identity, sexism, class, political systems, and the consequences of power. She is one of the most influential contemporary American artists. Recently, she conceived the artist-driven project called RESIST COVID TAKE 6! The TAKE 6 in the title refers to the recommended six feet of separation in social distancing. African American, Latino, and Native American communities have been disproportionately impacted by the deadly virus, COVID-19. The public art campaign promotes preventative measures and dispels harmful falsehoods. 2/ The power of women is one of the themes in the photography of this mujer fantástica. One of the best and most-recognized Mexican contemporary photographers, Flor Garduño shows women as powerful and self-fulfilled beings. 3/ With an unwillingness to be categorized, Holly Roberts’ images challenge most definitions of the photographic medium. Her world is fresh and fierceless. Through a rich mixture of painting, photography and collage, she pays tribute to the imagination. 4/ Suda House is a local photographer of national and international reputation. She is currently a professor of art and photography at Grossmont College in El Cajon, Calif. In 1983, she was selected to be one of six West Coast photographers to work with the Polaroid 20 x 24 camera. These works along with others are within private and public collections in the Polaroid Corporation, San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Creative Center of Photography, Minneapolis Institute of the Arts and the Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego. 5/ Rinko Kawauchi is Japanese photographer whose work is characterized by a serene, poetic style, depicting the ordinary moments in life. Her works often have a radiant light, which can give them a dream-like quality. #InternationalDayOfTheGirl https://mopa.org/exhibitions/celebrating-five-women-artists/
