Just a reminder, we will be closed November 26, for Thanksgiving. We hope you all have a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
You may have noticed the Welcome to Historic Montrose signs at the entrance roads to the Borough. The signs were made possible through a grant from the Endless Mountains Heritage Region, submitted by the Susquehanna County Historical Society. The signs were manufactured by Rosenkrans Signs of Great Bend with the design, wording and placement created by Barbara Klim, Betty Bryden and Betty Smith. In the not too distant future you will want to look for a number of signs throughout the town, designating the Montrose Historic District, funded by the same grant. Installation of the signs was made possible by the Montrose Borough Road Department with appreciation and thanks to Ken DiPhillips and his crew.

Take a look, if you haven't already, through our 100 Years Ago Articles. As many of you may know this year marks the 100th year anniversary from when women gained the right to vote, but along with that right to vote came some interesting predicaments and questions that they didn't quite know how to handle. . . . . . . . Can She Vote If She Marries Before November? Philadelphia: Miss Dorothy Dexter, Overbrook, gave the registrars in her division a puzzle which they could not solve. She registered and then asked if she might vote in November. But, before November 2, Miss Dexter does not expect to be Miss Dexter. She anticipates being Mrs..Well, she didn’t tell the registrars what her name would be. . . . . . . Check out the rest on our website or in the local papers! https://www.susqcohistsoc.org/year-1920
In case you missed last week's 100 Years Ago article [August 27 (1920/2020)] here is an interesting little bit from it: Montrose Local Motoring Hints: The idea seems prevalent among local motorists that Public avenue has been set aside by the council as a parking place for automobiles, and that there is a provision under the law whereby cars may be parked in a designated parking place without lights. While the law does permit towns and boroughs to make ordinances governi...ng the parking of cars, there is no provision for cars being parked in these places without lights. In the second place, the borough council has not designated, by ordinance, a parking place in any part of the borough. Motorists are warned against parking cars so as to obstruct alleys, particularly the alley between the post-office and the new theatre, as the U S. mail passes through this alley. They are also warned against running with cut-outs open within the borough limits. Whether a car is in motion or is standing, lights must be on from one hour after sunset to one hour before sunrise, or when it is impossible to see clearly for a distance of 200 feet. To read the rest of the article check it out on our website, https://www.susqcohistsoc.org/year-1920
