There is so much happening here at the Village these days. We might have closed for the season in September but the work hasn't stopped! The Cash's Shingle Mil...l was completed this fall and will be up and running for next season! This new building will complement to story of Cash's Carding Mill located right beside the new building. Many of you will remember our little barn located next to the Church. The barn is being totally renovated this fall and will become an new onsite programming space! We've shared with you before the new workshop being built. Check out the progress! The building most of you will recognize most is our Visitor Centre, it to is getting an overhaul. Exterior work started a few weeks ago and will be done early this winter. This building will become our new costume department and artifact storage. Last but not least, we're excited to share that our new Cultural Resource Centre has gone to tender! We'll be sharing more soon with you all about this exciting piece of our project. Stay tuned!
What are they doing in there?
Congratulations Daw n Dawn Wells! We were so glad to have you spend time with us.
Fifty years ago this weekend the "Nova Scotia Museum" opened its doors on Summer Street for the first time (now the Museum of Natural History). On November 21 a...nd 22,1970 the Museum hosted an Open House, during which the entire building may be inspected by the public. This year we could not open our behind the scenes area but we would like to share some views of our backstage. What would you like to see? What Museum questions do you have? What would you like to see in the next 50 years? @mnhnovascotia Thank you to the millions of visitors that have visited 1747 Summer Street over the 50 years.

Last year, Tim (Curator of Geology) and Ian (Senior Conservator) were part of team to bring a 200kg fossilized tree stump from @jogginsfossilcliffs to our HQ. #AskAConservator
In 1867, a year before the Provincial Museum was formed, Dr. David Honeyman, the first Curator of the Nova Scotia Museum, published the paper "The Geology of An...tigonish County". This paper included a hand-coloured geology map that showed the geological features of the region. Imagine the excitement! Publishing a colour map would have been rare at the time, considered 'high-tech' even. Learn more about the significance of this map and what it meant for Honeyman and the international community in thid blog post by our Tim Fedak, Curator of Geology. #geoweek2020 #linkinbio #geography https://museum.novascotia.ca/blog/honeymans-geology-map
