DSL members just spent two hours with Gaye Blake Roberts, speaking via Zoom from England, on Josiah Wedgwood - Potter, Pioneer, Philanthropist. She gave such insight into the man whose wares are featured in Classic Black at The Mint Museum. The talk came to us by way of invitation from Connecticut Ceramics Circle and was moderated by Tish Roberts. What a treat! Thank you! #delhomdigsclay #themintmuseum #classicblack #connecticutceramicscircle #wedgwood

Zoom in for some interesting details on the art of the pottery and the artist who painted the images for the stamps. Thanks Dad!!

Most of the works in Classic Black have classically inspired themes or ornament. Some were copied directly from works of art made in ancient Greece and Rome. Ot...her basalt pieces were based on works made by sixteenth-, seventeenth-, or eighteenth-century artists who themselves looked back to antiquity for inspiration. Wedgwood and his peers also hired modelers and other craftsmen to create new designs for their basalt wares. All these basalt objects were perfectly suited for the neoclassical interiors so popular among style-conscious consumers, both in England and beyond, in the last decades of the eighteenth century. Photo: 2018-Sarah Belk Gambrell, Honorary Chair of Delhom’s Potters Market. - We are saddened by the loss of Sarah Belk Gambrell, one of the founding members of the Delhom Service League. Her list of accomplishments and contributions to our community is extensive, and she had a lasting impact on so many in Charlotte. But to the members of the Delhom, she will be remembered not just for her philanthropy but for her friendship and passion for ceramics. Mrs. Gambrell worked clo...sely with Mellanay Delhom and helped shape the Delhom Service League, with her contributions recognized in the naming of the Delhom-Gambrell Reference Library at The Mint, dedicated to ceramics and the decorative arts. Her commitment to the Delhom continued for over 45 years, and she remained active, attending the Potters Party in 2018 when she served as Honorary Chair of the Potters Market at the Mint. Many of our members have fond memories of Sarah and will miss her friendship, but even our newer members who may not have had the opportunity to know Mrs. Gambrell personally appreciate her enduring legacy in the ongoing work of the Delhom. Ceramics, while fragile, can also stand the test of time and serve as historical documents. Delhom Service League can’t wait to see the new exhibitions the Mint is planning! #delhomdigsclay #Repost @themintmuseum with @make_repost #CuratorsPick This alcohol flask is molded in the likeness of Daniel O'Connell (17751847), an Irish attorney and formidable statesman. This is the perfect way to support #ncpottery!
We’re sad not to present Potters Market at the Mint this year, but save the date for Sept 25, 2021. In the meantime, stay safe and please support the #ncpottery community, a rich tradition in our state. Stay up to date at pottermarketatthemint.com. #delhomdigsclay
A difficult decision but the best for all. Save the date for 2021! #ncpottery
