The US Navy was established on October 13, 1775. This year marks their 245th Anniversary, as well as a special commemoration of the Navy’s efforts in the Pacific theater during WWII. This weekend’s featured aircraft is the Bell P-39 Airacobra, one of the principal fighters in use by the Army Air Forces when the United States entered the war. We are pleased to be hosting guest speaker Chris Henry, Program Coordinator at the EAA Aviation Museum once again! Henry will discuss the history of Richard Bong, America’s Ace of Aces. With 40 victories in the skies of the South Pacific during World War II, all of which were scored from the seat of a P-38, earning him a Medal of Honor, Bong’s story will be told through the lens of the men who knew him during the war. Henry will trace Bong’s life from Wisconsin native to his eventual fame and media attention during the war, as well as his untimely death in August 1945. See our combat veteran P-40 Warhawk in flight this weekend! #SummerOfFlight kicks off this Saturday at 1pm, weather and maintenance permitting! Our P-40 was built in 1941 and was sent to Great Britain, then on to the Soviet Union to a squadron near Murmansk where it was lost in action. It returned to the skies after extensive reconstruction in 2003. #Warhawk #WW2

Halloween is fast approaching, and the Museum’s staff and volunteers are hard at work creating spooky and fun decorations for the trick-or-treaters who will be visiting during the Haunted Hangar event this weekend.
