I think it's been years since I've finished a self portrait? This one is based on a selfie I took after someone treated me poorly. It was my way of remembering that sometimes the hope of someone changing is not worth the pain. And settling for someone who makes you cry is never going to be pretty.
Make it pink a client gave me this dope ass table lamp, and I had leftover broken mirror shards.... So violá! Special thanks to @midwestmoonface for letting me use all her pink nail polish #diyhomedecor #upcycle

Witchcraft-- Making Dark Art
There has been so much death around me this year. It's been a privilege to have made it this far in my life without experiencing so much grief. I learned today that one of my friends from KU passed away last week. She was the kind of person we all wish we were- kind, intelligent, funny. I didn't spend a ton of time with her, but she always made me feel important. The world is a little less bright without Becky. "Nocturnal" by Arkhip Kuindzhi, 1908
I am the sky-- covered in constellations
When you open mail from your credit union, assuming it's just junk, and then read a handwritten note congratulating you on 2nd Best Artist>>>> Thank you, Truity Credit Union fam (especially you, Sam )
I love me a radical gate (art not by me btw)
I painted this house :) did the whole exterior (including the porch) and most of the interior. I'm pretty proud.
One of the most emotionally fulfilling things for me is painting a mural in someone's home. Anyone can go spend hundreds on mass-produced nursery decor that they'll throw away in a couple of years. I see that crap at garage sales all the time. Knowing that cheaply made decorations are easily accessible, I find painting murals even more satisfying. The people who slide into my DMs for these types of things are usually strangers. In this case, the client had heard about anothe...r mural I did last year in a KC Moms facebook group. I always underestimate the power of word of mouth. Within days, I went up to KC and had it finished. They got a hand-painted mural with custom colors and words. I worked with them the whole time to make sure it's what they imagined. I spent a total of 4.5 hours in their home. Can Amazon deliver that accurately and fast? Plus, I work hard. I'm 25 and have several jobs. I've got debt and a dream of buying a house. Revenue from this one mural can pay several bills. It can help me breathe. When you commission me to create for you, you're actually helping me survive. I'm not sure if all of y'all realize how much it means to me.
I know winning 2nd Best Artist shouldn't be so bittersweet, but it is. I loved the Best of Lawrence Bash last year. Being there as someone in the Top 5 felt super special-- everyone was there to celebrate, in high spirits, the food was amazing, the free beer was a huge bonus. We celebrated each other and our small and not-so-small victories. I cried again this year, when the Top 5 were announced, and I saw my name. I looked forward to the Bash, thinking that surely by Septem...ber, COVID-19 would be a thing of the past. It's just another Monday for me, and it definitely does not feel special. There's no going out to celebrate my achievements with my friends. There's no photographer who will take my photo as I strike the rock-'n'-roll pose again. I realize that what I'm feeling is what so many of you have experienced with the cancellation or changing of your celebrations, whether it was your wedding, graduation, birthday, or bar mitzvah. I am very privileged that I'm just now feeling this way-- disappointed, alone, sad, unworthy.... did I mention alone? So tonight I am celebrating my award, of course, but I am also going to be celebrating you. What are you proud of this year that maybe didn't get recognized as it should have? What special occasion did you not get to share with your family and friends? Tell me your achievements and life events. To Us
