Porsche Motorsport mourns the loss of Walter Lechner (1949-2020). The Austrian from Faistenau in the Salzkammergut has been a valued member of the Porsche family since 1985. Already at his debut at the wheel of the Porsche 956 that year, he celebrated his maiden victory. During his successful career spanning more than two decades, the racing driver won two titles in the Interserie driving Group C vehicles from Porsche and also contested the 24 Hours of Le Mans. After hanging up his racing helmet in 1996, Walter Lechner established a successful motorsport company. The Porsche Motorsport family wishes Walter Lechner’s family the strength to come through this difficult time, and say with all our heart: Thank you, Walter! https://porsche.click/3gLvsPL

For us, driving - or, rather, controlled sliding - on ice puts the cool into winter. This sort of racing was quite common in chillier spots like the Alps and Scandinavia, back in the day. How would you spend a day in the snow with your Porsche?

Porsche hits the headlines with the 911 turbo 3.3 4x4 Cabriolet at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1981. This first completely open variant of the 911 dispenses with the fixed rollover protection and, from the late eighties, is one step ahead of the imminent renaissance in barless convertibles. The lowered front spoiler, the flared wheel-arches of the 911 Turbo, and the combination of the classic 911 silhouette with the open top get the applause of the specialist press and Pors...che aficionados alike. The concept cabriolet is the first rear-engine sports car to feature all-wheel drive. A shortened 928 prop shaft delivers a portion of the power to the front axle, where an adapted 911 Turbo differential provides excellent traction. The 45/55 weight distribution is almost perfect. With the cabriolet concept car, Porsche continues its tradition of convertibles, the last of which was the 356 C from 1964/65. Model Year: 1981 Engine: 6-Cyl. Flat Turbo Displacement: 3299 cc Power Output: 213 kW (290 HP) Top Speed: 245 km/h
From the unofficial Porsche vocabulary book, our term today: banana banana: Light alloy rear axle control arm for the 911/911 Turbo (from 1974)

This is another 911 that wrote history: the first turbocharged Porsche 911, and the first turbo-powered Porsche race car at Le Mans. Porsche campaigns the RSR Turbo in the 1974 World Championship for Manufacturers against thorough-bred prototypes in order to prepare for the World Championship with production based-racers touted for 1975. In 1972/73, Porsche had pioneered turbocharged race engines with the 917, and now successfully applies the acquired knowledge. For a low veh...icle weight, the roll cage is made of aluminium, the doors and all add-on body parts are plastic. For consistent handling, the 120-litre fuel tank is positioned in the rear of the cockpit. Gijs van Lennep and Herbert Müller score third at the Monza 1,000 kilometres with this chassis. At Le Mans, Helmuth Koinigg and Manfred Schurti retire with a damaged connecting rod, while their team colleagues Van Lennep and Müller bring the sister car home in a sensational second place. Model Year: 1974 Engine: 6-Cyl. Boxer Displacement: 2142 cc Power Output: 357 kW (500 HP) Top Speed: 300 km/h Acceleration 0-100 km/h: 3.2 s Weight: 750 kg

Ferry Porsche’s private cars were preferably green, as he was a passionate hunter. This tradition is still alive today.
