Today, in celebration of Día de Los Muertos, we are looking at stone masks from Teotihuacan, dating to around 200 A.D. to 650 A.D! Stone masks are possibly the best well-known representation of Teotihuacan's sculptures and a larger emblem of Mesoamerican history. He has a BSE in Art Education from Henderson State University, a MA in Art Education at Northern Arizona University, and has studied American Indian Law at the University Of New Mexico School Of Law. He is currently employed as a Museum Educator at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Ar...t in Bentonville, Arkansas. He has showcased his art in other states such as Arizona, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. He has permanent collections at the University of Oklahoma at the Fred Jones Jr Museum of Modern Art and at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock at the Sequoyah National Research Center. Benham expresses, In my art I try to capture a time of tradition of my tribe’s journey from a nomadic tribe to contemporary life. Through my art I attempt to illustrate this transition time from the Old Order to the New Order and how, with success or failure, with grief or with humor, with loss and inheritance this gulf was bridged. Aaron W. Jones works as an administrator at Arkansas Arts Academy in Rogers, Arkansas. His professional career has been arts education where he has served as a public school art teacher, university professor of art history and studio art, a museum educator and state arts administrator for the Oklahoma Arts Council. Prior to his position with the Academy Aaron served as the Interpretation.
This year, due to the special circumstances we are facing from the COVID-19 pandemic, we are modifying our celebration of Dia de Los Muertos as a virtual event. Dia de los Muertos is a beautiful ceremony of life connecting our past loved ones and community together.
